Mike Murray has dedicated more than 60 years to the concrete industry, beginning his career as a concrete finisher in 1964. He founded two successful companies in the Kansas City area — Murray Concrete, a concrete contracting company, and later, with his wife, Donna Murray, Decorative Concrete Supply, following their involvement in stamped and colored concrete.  Together, Mike and Donna also founded Concrete Cares, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families facing cancer-related expenses during treatment. Their mission became known as fighting cancer “the concrete way — one yard at a time.”

Donna stood beside Mike throughout his career, attending 32 American Concrete Institute conventions, numerous American Society of Concrete Contractors conventions, annual World of Concrete events, Concrete Cares fundraisers, and countless industry seminars. They have participated in and supported a plethora of concrete associations, locally and nationally. Anyone who knows Mike recognizes his unwavering dedication to quality concrete and to advancing the industry.  Sadly, Donna passed away in 2025 at the age of 81. Even in retirement, Mike continues to support the concrete industry and serve those in need. This scholarship honors an extraordinary couple whose leadership, generosity, and commitment have made a lasting impact on the concrete industry nationwide.
